Project Management

LexMC’s directors have a long and successful track-record of running large, complex dictionary projects. Their most recent major project is the DANTE lexical database, completed in 2010 and the product of a three-year development programme.

DANTE provides the most comprehensive description ever produced of the core vocabulary of English. With its wealth of machine-retrievable data, it is already being used by research groups all over the world, and it offers publishers a high-quality, labour-saving launchpad for any type of new dictionary. This video (from Michael Rundell’s keynote talk at the eLexicography2011 conference) gives an overview of DANTE.

LexMC can provide

  1. project evaluations: these typically take the form of 2 or 3 days’ discussion with clients, followed by a detailed report with recommendations
  2. advice on project planning and management, including business plans and setting up the infrastructure for a project
  3. access to a team of highly experienced lexicographers, led by our sister organization DivaLex
  4. advice on software: LexMC have extensive experience in the design and use of lexicographic software, and have pioneered the automation of lexicographic tasks. We are well-placed to offer advice on corpus-query systems, dictionary-writing systems, and other programs for facilitating and streamlining the process of creating dictionaries and lexical databases
